To explain this in more details, the turbocharger is quite complex and has two fans that are connected to a metal shaft and a compression chamber. This chamber is for the hot exhaust gases from the cylinders which drive one of the fans which turn's the second fan. The compressor will force extra air into the cylinders with the system becoming proficient with the hot air being cooled by a heat exchanger before entering the cylinders to create the extra power. The turbocharger system delivers this for no extra cost because it is generated with its own exhaust gases.
Not every car will be able to use a supercharger and these deliver excellent levels of power when necessary. Also, while turbocharges can be used for both petrol and diesel engines, superchargers tend to be used just for petrol engines because they are easier to be integrated into the engine itself.
Among the reasons for having a supercharger is that they are much better at lower revs than a turbocharger, they are easier to maintain and have a much better throttle response. They also do not suffer from turbo lag.
However, turbochargers are more suitable for a small four-cylinder engine and tend to work better at high engine speeds and will be more efficient and quieter than a supercharger.
